Dance, music festival to celebrate traditional Indian art forms

Young artistes from Sahitya Kala Parishad will showcase their talents at the upcoming 'Sopan festival' with performances of Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Mohiniyattam and classical music among other traditional Indian art forms.

Organised by the Art, Culture & Language Department of the Delhi government, the cultural festival will be held at the Central Park from December 13 here.

The six-day event will feature performances by 24 young and upcoming artistes who have received scholarship from Sahitya Kala Parishad.

"It is a matter of pride and celebration when today's young talents come together and invest their time and energy to promote our traditional Indian art forms like dance, music and instruments.

"We are proud of these young upcoming stars and are glad that Sahitya Kala Parishad is setting platforms like Sopan to provide them with an audience base," deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said in a statement.

Opening with a violin recital by G Raghavendra Prasad, the first evening will witness Kathak performances by Garima Arya Chaturlal and Jaya Pathak, and Bharatanatyam by Ankita Kaushik.

The following days of the festival will showcase musical vocal by Riya Banerjee, Pakhawaj presentation by Bhanu Sisodia, Mohiniyattam by Reshma Suresh, Odissi by Yamini Dikshit, Sitar recital by Ankita Dhingra, Bharatnatyam by Tanya Gambhir, and Carnatic vocal by S Avinash among several other performances.

The classical dance, music festival will come to an end on December 18.
