West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said her government has set up a committee to plan more development works in Darjeeling hills.
Darjeeling, a major tourist attraction, is exhausted and new tourist places have to be built, she said.
"Darjeeling is exhausted. We have to plan to build new places to attract more tourists in this area. We have set up a new committee," Banerjee told reporters here after holding a meeting with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) officials.
She said the new committee was set up to plan more development works in Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik.
"To carry out development projects in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Mirik, we have to come up with short-term, mid-term and long-term plan. The committee will submit its report on how to transform Darjeeling into a better tourist spot," the chief minister said.
The committee will be headed by the local MLA Amar Singh Rai and have representatives from the CII and FICCI besides the SP and the DM.
State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Arup Biswas, state Minister of State for Tourism Indranil Sen, Chief Secretary Malay Dey and GTA caretaker chairman Benay Tamang were present in the meeting among others.
