The 45-year-old 'Black Swan' director also wanted to ensure that 'Noah' looks more humanistic than the children's versions, reported Contactmusic.
"One of the things that Darren wanted to do was anchor it in reality, give it a grittiness. That's only achieved by going out there and filming on location," said the movie's visual effects supervisor, Ben Snow.
'Noah', which stars Russell Crowe, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins, is slated to release next month in the UK.
