Veteran actor David Prowse, best known for his role as Darth Vader from the "Star Wars" universe, has announced retirement from all public appearances.
The 82-year-old actor had earlier said he would no longer make public appearances from January next year due to health issues.
The announcement was made on the Facebook page, Love of Sci-Fi convention, which will take place in December.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Dave Prowse will be retiring earlier than anticipated so will not be making any more public appearances... Due to ill health his doctors have advised it's best to call it a day," the post read.
The organisers had planned to bid a worthy farewell to Prowse as the Dark Lord of the Sith, including a lifetime achievement award flanked by a huge garrison of Stormtroopers, a moving rendition of The Imperial March by the 67 piece Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and a commemorative unveiling of our full-size Darth Vaders TIE fighter.
The customers who had purchased photos with the actor are being refunded. They even apologised to the fans who had planned to come and see him one last time.
The news comes after Prowse announced he was retiring from international fan conventions in October last year.
