Day after fire incident, illegally stored crackers seized from

A day after seven persons were charred to death in Ranipura fire incident in city, the district administration today conducted raids and seized illegally stored firecrackers from a godown and four shops, an official said.
"Godown of Dilip Patakha House was raided and 10 boxes of crackers were seized. This is the same firm which had illegally stored firecrackers at its shop in Ranipura where the fire had broken out, in which seven persons lost their life," Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bihari Singh said.
Besides the godown, the illegal stock of crackers was recovered from four shops in this area, he said.

"Though the firecracker license of Dilip Patakha House was cancelled last year, the shop owner had stored the crackers illegally," the SDM added.
The incident occurred last afternoon, when the blaze started at the cracker shop and spread to the adjoining shop selling polythene bags and five other outlets.
Cracking the whip, Indore DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra today withdrew five police personnel, including a police station in-charge, from their field duties for dereliction of duty, in the wake of the incident.

"Central Kotwali police station in-charge CS Chadhar and four other police personnel from the same police station were line-attached (withdrawn from the field duty) due to carelessness (in monitoring the illegal storage of crackers)," the DIG said.

District Collector P Narhari has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
