The West Bengal Assembly will hold a day's special session on December 8 to pass the West Bengal Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2014, to make way for private domestic players in rural marketing hubs.
"Altogether four Bills, including the Agri-Marketing one, will be tabled for discussion and passing during the day's special session on December 8," Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee said after the Business Advisory Committee meeting here today.
Government Chief Whip Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay said that the decision was taken in the presence of Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra and leaders of other opposition parties.
Speaking about the Agri-Marketing Bill-2014, which was referred for scrutiny to the Select Committee in the previous session, state's Agriculture Marketing Minister Arup Roy said, "We will allow only domestic capital in retail market under strict regulation. The state government, however, will not allow FDI in retail."
The Assembly Select Committee yesterday cleared the bill with three amendments moved by the Government Chief Whip Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay.
However, all 18 amendments moved by the Opposition in the House were rejected.
Three other Bills to be tabled on Monday included two private university Bills, The Amity University Bill-2014 and The University of Engineering and Management Bill-2014, besides Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill-2014, the Government Chief Whip said.
