The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the district magistrate (North), seeking a detailed report over reported seizure of more than 300 litres of acid in Azadpur Mandi.
The commission has sought a report from the district magistrate (DM) on how and from where the acid was procured, the purpose it was being used for, the circumstances in which it reached the Azadpur Mandi and whether any penal action has been taken against the business owners in whose custody the acid was found.
It also sought to know how many raids and inspections have been carried out in the Mandi over the past two years along with dates of inspections, name and designation of the officer who undertook the inspection, amount of acid confiscated and details of FIR registered, if any.
"It is pertinent to note that even though open sale of acid has been banned by the Supreme Court, acid continues to be sold in shops in Delhi and recovery of such large quantities of acid displays the gross failure to implement the directions of court," the commission wrote in the notice.
