DCW seeks status report from police over killing of woman

The Delhi Commission for Women has sought a status report, including details of arrests made, from the police in connection with the killing of a woman whose body was found near Shanti Van area here.

The body of the woman, in her 20s, was found in central Delhi yesterday and the police were also suspecting sexual assault, though an autopsy was yet to be carried out.

The DCW, in its notice, issued to Daryaganj police has sought to know if guards were manning the park where her body was found, and how the deceased and her killer obtained entry into the park at night.

The women's panel also asked if CCTV cameras were installed in and around the park and if the the family of the girl has been identified.

"If yes, the commission would request a meeting with them in order to support them," the notice said.

The DCW has asked the police to submit the details to it by May 19.

The police were informed that a woman, with head injuries, was lying unconscious. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The woman is yet to be identified. It is suspected that she was hit with a stone on her head and effort was also made to distort her face, the police had said.

It is suspected that the woman was a vagabond and lived nearby.

Police are questioning other vagabonds in the area to get some clue about the killer and also to establish the identity of the woman. It has been suspected that she was killed at night and her body was dumped there.
