A separate cell has also been created in the Agriculture Ministry to coordinate with the channel and help disseminate information relating to the government's key farm schemes and new technologies developed by research bodies, he added.
"The challenge before us is to increase agriculture production in the backdrop of rising population and limited natural resources.
"Our scientists have developed many innovative technologies and the new DD Kisan channel will help in taking these technologies from 'lab to land," Singh said at the launch of the channel here.
Till now, farmers were educated about new farm techniques and technologies through Kisan Call Centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, he said, adding that the launch of an exclusive farm channel would further speed up the government's efforts to create awareness among the farming community.
The Minister further said that the DD Kisan channel and government's agriculture research body ICAR have signed a pact.
The DD Kisan channel will air programmes related to the government's agri-policies, innovative technologies, weather and market information and experiences from farmers, among other issues, he added.
