Quiz shows for farmers, a bottoms-up approach involving agriculturists, inviting programming suggestions from general public, are some of the ideas that came up at a brainstorming session held by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for Doordarshan's Kisan TV channel.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, officials of Prasar Bharati, I&B ministry and many domain experts came up with ideas on how to make Doordarshan's Kisan TV channel a rousing success, according to sources.
Officials said that during the meeting it was suggested that emphasis should be on farmer to farmer interaction so that agriculturists can benefit from each other's experience.
"A general view was that the channel should be informative and of practical use to the farming community. At the same time it should be be entertaining so that it becomes popular," an official said.
It was also suggested that ideas for the channel should be crowd-sourced, that is public should be asked to come up with interesting concepts.
Among suggestions given by participants were that there could be quiz shows and other popular formats.
A senior official also said that another meeting would be held where views and ideas of farmers would be considered.
Narendra Modi led NDA government had announced that it would be launching a Doordarshan 'Kisan' TV channel for farmers.
