National broadcaster Doordarshan today announced the launch of a Hindi tele-serial which through its narrative would showcase the benefits of UPA government's policies and schemes.
In a statement released here, Doordarshan said the serial 'Poorva Suhani Aayi Re' is the story of an illiterate girl who through courage and commitment gives voice to fellow villagers and makes them aware of the benefits of various welfare schemes and policies and helps them improve their living standards.
As per the plot of 'Poorva Suhani Aayi Re', the female protagonist Poorva is married to the son of an influential landlord who is also the village pradhan.
However, when the government implements fifty per cent reservation for women in panchayats in the village, the landlord appoints Poorva in his place, thinking his daughter- in-law would be pliable as pradhan.
Initially, Poorva, has to play in the hands of her husband and father-in-law but gradually comes in contact with doctors (who are serving in the village as per goverment guidelines), social activist, others and plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the village.
From August 8, the 52-episode serial would be telecast at 10 PM on the DD national on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Doordarshan said.
'Poorva Suhani Aayi Re' in fact will showcase real-life success stories of people, who have benefited from the government's policies, in a fiction format, Doordarshan said.
The launch of the serial, that will highlight the policies of UPA government, comes at a time when general elections are approaching and the government has already launched a hi-profile 'Bharat Nirman' campaign to publicise the positives of its policies.
A day earlier, All India Radio too had announced the launch of a radio serial 'Priya' whose storyline would also highlight the benefits of government's programmes.
