Death of businessman:HC notice to MHA, Delhi Commissioner, SHO

The Delhi High Court today sought a response from the Union Home Ministry on a plea filed by a woman seeking a CBI probe into the death of her 30-year-old businessman-husband who was allegedly abducted and killed by eight policemen here.
Justice Mukta Gupta also directed the Delhi Police Commissioner and the SHO concerned, on whose alleged direction businessman Manoj Rana was abducted and killed, to file their replies by October 27.
During the hearing of the plea filed by the businessman's wife Rishi Rana, the court asked the Centre and the investigating agency to explain why the probe into the death of Manoj Rana should not be done by an independent agency like CBI.

The court issued the notice on a plea which has also sought a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, besides seeking transfer of the case from the Crime Branch of Delhi Police to CBI.
The plea, filed through advocate Gaurav K Bansal, also said the probe showed "the pathetic and callous attitude" of Delhi Police which, instead of doing a fair investigation, are trying to save the then Station House Officer (SHO) of Bindapur police station.
