The death toll in a landslide that struck eastern China's Zhejiang province rose to 31 today, with six people still missing.
The landslide buried 27 homes in Lidong village in Liandu District of Lishui City on Friday night, leaving 38 people missing. Only one person has been rescued so far while over 300 villagers have been relocated.
The weather bureau has forecast torrential rain tonight, which might hamper rescue efforts.
Meteorologists warned of hazards for about 2,300 rescuers who are engaged in the operation. The city government has decided on a location for new buildings.
A land replacement plan for the affected farmers will also be completed in a week, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Staff with the Ministry of Land and Resources have been dispatched from Beijing to carry out inspections in the neighbouring mountain area and to organize evacuation if necessary.
Lishui had received about 4.23 million yuan (USD 660,000) in public donations by this evening.
