The opposition National Conference (NC) today said the "current spate of deaths" in Jammu and Kashmir was hurtingthe psyche of the people and further "alienating"and"distancing"them from the mainstream.
"The current spate of deaths in Jammu and Kashmir is hurting the psyche of the people and they are getting alienating from the mainstream," NC provincial President Devender Singh Rana said.
"Theso called protagonists of 'nationalism' must understand that such a strategy certainly does not serve the national Interest," Rana said.
He said even when the Kashmir Valley was on boil for the past 40 days, attempts were being made by vested interests to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region.
"This is a dangerous development," Rana said, adding that after failing to govern this sensitive state due to their naivetyandadministrativeinexperience, thepresent government was attempting to hide their failures with an avowed objective of diverting attention.
"Stung by 2008 agitation, the people will not oblige BJP in its sinister design this time," Rana said.
Normal life remain paralysed in the Valley due to street protests since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.
As many as 64 people including two police personnel have been killed and several thousand injured in the clashes that began on July 9.
