North Bengal Development minister Goutam Deb today asked the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) activists to join the mainstream.
"I would appeal to the KLO activists to give up violence and join the mainstream," Deb said while addressing Trinamool Congress workers at the Alipurduar parade ground.
The North Bengal Development minister said the state government would deal sternly with those behind Jalpaiguri bomb blast and other violence in North Bengal.
The KLO is suspected to be behind the December 26 bomb blast in Jalpaiguri district in which six persons were killed.
Earlier on December 31 in a veiled warning to the KLO, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said taking up arms in the name of protection of human rights cannot be accepted.
"Talk of human rights and killings cannot be accepted," she had said.
The Chief Minister had earlier said violence in the name of movements would not go down well with the people and claimed, the KLO was raising money in the name of such agitations.
The KLO is fighting for a separate state comprising some districts of West Bengal and Assam.
