"The model adopted is not suitable keeping in mind the socio-economic and geographic situation of the country and a debate on the issue is must...," Rajnath told reporters here.

"The main reason (for the debate) is because income disparity is increasing, which is dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country," he said.

He said the country should have its own economic model and it should not adopt it from others.

"Therefore I am saying that there must be a debate. The model should be such that instead of increasing the number of capitalists, it should reduce the number of poor," he said.

On FDI creating more job opportunities in the country, Rajnath said that he did not subscribe to the view.

Asked on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressing apprehension of a scam to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore in installation of statues and construction of memorials, Rajnath said that Akhilesh must have some information to make that statement.
