A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at a village in Krishna district, police said today.
A Narasimha Rao (45), of Venganayakunipalem village of Penuganchiprolu Mandal of Krishna district, had borrowed Rs one lakh from local money lenders last year and taken two acres of land on lease to sow cotton crop.
However, as he could not get proper yield of the crop, he was unable to clear his debts.
Stressed over the financial crisis, Rao yesterday consumed the pesticide at his residence in the village. Later, his family members rushed him to Nandigama Government Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
The farmer is survived by wife and four children.
Penuganchiprolu Police have registered a case and are further investigating.
