The parents of one of the accused in the December 16 gangrape case today told a court here that their son was innocent and his father broke down during his testimony.
Both the father and mother pleaded with folded hands to the judge that their son should be acquitted from the case as he was falsely implicated in the crime.
However, they accepted that their son knew the other accused as they were staying in the same area but were not on friendly terms.
Vinay Sharma's parents, appearing as a defence witness before Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna, said their son is "innocent" and was with them on the night of the incident as they have gone to a music function in south Delhi.
"My son is not accused in the gangrape. He was with us during the time the girl was allegedly gangraped by group of six people. My son is innocent and was not one of the participants to the crime. He has been falsely implicated," the mother said.
Both of them refuted the police allegation that Vinay was one of the six who had also raped the girl and assaulted her male friend with an iron rod.

"Why should I believe?...He was with me at the time of the incident," the father testified while breaking down during his deposition in the court.
The prosecution has claimed Vinay was in the company of accused Ram Singh, Mukesh, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and the juvenile.
The police said in the court that Vinay and others have first lured one carpenter into the bus on December 16, 2012 night and robbed him and later pushed him out of the moving vehicle.
