In wake of IIT Kharagpur faculty members adopting an agitation path to demand immediate appointment of a director, HRD Minister Pallam Raju today assured that normalcy would return soon in the campus.
He said the ministry was waiting for a report from the central vigilance commission about the director who has been selected for the post and that "CVC would expedite the decision".
Ministry officials hoped that before Raju's visit to the campus on July 27 to attend the convocation function, the director would be in place.
Over 400 faculty members and a large number of alumni of IIT Kharagpur had yesterday gone on a token hunger-strike demanding immediate appointment of a director.
The post of the director fell vacant on June 30, 2012 and there has been no permanent appointment to the post, IIT Teachers Association general secretary Rajendra Singh had said.
Singh said a computer science department professor Partha Pratim Chakraborty was interviewed twice by the HRD ministry and his appointment has been held back for long pending vigilance clearance.
He said in the absence of the director, no major policy decision could be taken at the institute.
Singh alleged the institute was being neglected by the HRD ministry.
