After one year of suspension, Deepak Fertilisers today said the company has resumed production of complex fertilisers at its Tajola plant in Maharashtra, using imported RLNG as feedstock.
In May last year, Petroleum Ministry had stopped the supply of domestic natural gas to Deepak Fertilisers following the request from Department of Fertilisers, saying that domestic cheap gas should be stopped as it manufacturers non-subsidised crop nutrients.
"..It is informed that production of ammonium nitrophosphate (ANP) has been resumed at the Taloja facility of the company using imported Re-gassified Liquid Natural Gas (RLNG) as feedstock," the company said in a BSE filing.
Deepak Fertilisers added that it has resumed production following the request from various farmers, cooperatives and a directive from the Maharashtra government.
"The resumption of production is based on expensive RLNG as the feedstock and the company's decision is clearly not driven by commercial considerations," the company said.
Meanwhile, the company has challenged government's order to stop the gas before Delhi High Court. The Department of Fertilisers has also formed an Inter-Ministerial Committee for reviewing the issue.
