Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Friday said she was deeply pained by the death of children in an accident in Uttar Pradesh in which a pick-up van plunged into a canal and asked party workers to provide all help to the families of the deceased.
Bodies of all the seven children were recovered during search operations after they went missing when a pick-up van plunged into the Indira canal in Nagram area on the outskirts of Lucknow early Thursday, officials said.
The vehicle was carrying 29 people, who were returning home after attending a wedding function in Barabanki district, neighbouring Lucknow. Twenty-two of them were rescued.
"Deeply pained by the news of the death of children in an accident in Nagram near Lucknow. In this hour of grief, my condolences to the families of the deceased. I request the Congressmen to reach out to the grieving families and extend all assistance," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.
