Goa Government today initiated inquiry into the notices issued by South Goa district administration today against the agitators protesting Defence Expo to be held later this month.
"Deputy collector has a right to issue notices to the people if he fears law and order situation. He can use his quasi-judicial authority. Still, I will inquire why notices were issued," Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza told the Legislative Assembly.
The notices were issued today to several protesters who have been holding demonstrations against the upcoming event, including local panch member Charles D'Silva, for agitating against the Expo to be held at Naqueri-Betul village, scheduled between March 28-31.
The issue was raised on the floor of House by Congress legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who claimed that the government has "snatched democratic right of the people to agitate".
Lourenco said district administration wants to take good behaviour bond from the agitators.
Local NGO, 'Orixtt Projeacho Avaz' (OPA) has begun a sit-in strike at the Defence Expo site.
