The Defence Ministry is probing the possibility of leakage of secret documents by a Navy officer who is facing dismissal from service for having an illicit affair.
The officer, who was posted at the Directorate of Naval Operations, has been recommended for disciplinary action by the Naval headquarters after he was found guilty of having an extramarital affair, which is prohibited in the armed forces. He is in the rank of Captain(equivalent to an Army Colonel).
The Ministry wants to know whether the officer leaked any secret documents as complained by the woman with whom he was having an affair, sources here said today.
It is alleged that the officer, who is father of two children, had made videos of himself with the woman and bragged about his connections with the top brass of the force while refusing to get into a formal relationship with her, the sources said.
After the complaint, the Navy ordered a Board of Inquiry into the conduct of the officer and he is now facing the prospect of being sacked from the force.
A number of sexual misconduct cases and wife-swapping allegations have dogged the navy in recent years, prompting Defence Minister A K Antony to take "sternest possible action".
A Navy Commander (equivalent to a Lieutenant Colonel) was sacked for sending lewd texts to women and a Lieutenant Commander (equivalent to a Major) was dismissed for having an affair with a superior's wife.
In 2011, a Commodore (equivalent to a Brigadier) was sacked after photographs of his sexual encounters with a Russian woman surfaced.
