Defamation case againt TN CPI-M unit secretary

Tamil Nadu government today filed a defamation case against CPI-M Tamil Nadu unit Secretary G. Ramakrishnan.
The city public prosecutor, M.L. Jegan, filed the case on behalf of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa charging the views expressed by Ramakrishan in the July 22 edition of an English daily relating to the murder of a head constable are defamatory.
The CPP also filed two defamation cases against the editor and publisher of a Tamil daily alleging two articles published in it this month were defamatory and with an intention to malign the government.
The cases were filed on behalf of State Transport Minister V.Senthil Balaji.
The first one relates to a news item published in the daily on July 2 about government's plan to increase bus fares and another about the quantity of transport works being entrusted to private parties.
The CPP submitted the daily published the two news items with an intention to malign the government.
The cases were filed before the Principal Sessions Judge, Chennai.
