A Tamil outfit headed by film director Kalanjiyam today filed a defamation case against southern actress Anjali in a court here over her recent remarks accusing him of harassment.
In his petition before Judicial Magistrate II, Murugan, Secretary of the local unit of Tamizhar Nalam Periyakkam (movement for Tamils welfare), submitted that Kalanjiyam had been working for the welfare of Tamils and the remarks by the actress had hurt the sentiments of his followers.
He sought to punish Anjali for defamation under IPC sections 499 and 500 besides 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
Magistrate Lakshmi posted the matter to May 13.
The petitioner submitted that the actress, who went missing briefly last month, had complained that her stepmother and Kalanjiyam were harassing her and using her as an ATM, charges which were rejected by them later.
Kalanjiyam himself had filed a defamation suit against Anjali on April 9 for charging him with baseless allegations.
Anjali acted in hit Tamil films 'Engaeyum Eppothum' and 'Angaadi Theru' besides the multi-starrer Telugu movie Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.
