Defeat DMK in Lok Sabha polls, Jaya tells party workers
Press Trust of India Chennai Accusing M Karunanidhi of betraying people of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today exhorted her party workers to take a vow for defeating arch-rival DMK in the next year Lok Sabha elections.
"Let us take a vow to defeat the Karunanidhi-led DMK, who is betraying the people of Tamil Nadu for selfish interests, in the upcoming Parliamentary elections," she said, writing to party cadres on eve of the 42nd foundation day of AIADMK.
Hitting out at Karunanidhi, Jayalalithaa alleged that he had surrendered to "North Indian hegemony" to escape from the 2G spectrum case.
"He (Karunanidhi) had surrendered to the Congress earlier to get away from Sarkaria Commission related graft cases," she alleged.
Referring to DMK's support for the Food Security Act besides its stand on issues like the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar river water sharing disputes, Jayalalithaa accused Karunanidhi of "betraying" Tamil Nadu on all such issues.
