Department of Electronics and IT (DEITy) is on the lookout for consultants to help chart out a roadmap for developing electronics design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector in India, which is poised to touch USD 400 billion turnover by 2020.
These consultants will be responsible for formulation and implementation of policies and guidelines related to the promotion of the Indian ESDM sector, DEITy has said in an advertisement.
Demand for technology products, specifically electronic products, have registered significant growth. Estimates suggest the demand for electronics hardware in the country could touch USD 400 billion by 2020, from USD 45 billion in 2009.
The estimated production in India is expected to reach USD 104 billion by the year 2020, creating a gap of USD 296 billion in demand and production.
This presents an opportunity for companies in the ESDM sector to look at India as their next destination to cater to the domestic Indian demand as well as an exports hub.
"ESDM promotion programme of DEITy seeks to radically change the electronics hardware manufacturing in the country by increasing value addition, encouraging technology development and Indian IP creation with a view to creating domestic manufacturing capacity of USD 400 billion in next 10 years," the advertisement on DEITy website said.
The Department plans to hire a senior consultant, two consultants and eight other professionals for the Programme Management Units (PMU), it added.
