Delhi acid attack victim to undergo eye-transplant surgery

The 30-year-old woman doctor who sustained burn injuries after an acid attack on her at a crowded market in west Delhi, will have to undergo an eye-transplant surgery to regain her visibility.
Doctors at the AIIMS, where the victim is currently undergoing treatment, have imported a therapeutic device called "Prokera" from the US to repair the damaged surface of her eye.
The victim, herself a doctor with the Employees State Insurance hospital, was attacked with acid by two motorcycle- borne assailants on December 23 in Rajouri Garden area, following which she sustained burn injuries on the right side of her face and eye.
"The cornea of her right eye will have to be changed. The imported device will reach by Friday and after that we will perform the eye-transplant," said doctors at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS.
The eye injury suffered by the patient was of the highest, Grade IV injury.
"The patient has already undergone a surgery earlier," said the doctor.
Dr Manish Singhal, plastic surgeon is treating the facial damages of the patient.
