Delhi BJP leaders including its president Manoj Tiwari today alleged a "scam" in the Construction Workers Welfare Board, that has been trashed by the AAP government as a "misleading and malicious" attempt to tarnish image of the Board.
Tiwari and his party colleague Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, urged the Lt Governor for a CBI probe into the alleged "scam".
Gupta charged "forged" registration of construction workers by the Board resulting in a "Rs 100 crore scam".
"It is believed that majority of workers registered during the last three years come from the AAP," he alleged in a statement.
Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said "Lt Governor should immediately take cognizance of the reports of alleged misappropriation of Labour Fund, seek a report on it from the chief secretary and refer the matter to CBI."
The Delhi government issued a rejoinder rejecting the BJP leaders' claims as "wild allegations".
"The entire functions of the board- registration, renewals of workers, processing of settlement of claims, issue of passbook etc- are being made... By following procedure laid down in The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers' (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2002," the rejoinder stated.
The allegations are "false, misleading and malicious" levelled by a political party with the intention to malign the Construction Workers Welfare Board, it said.
