Delhi BJP MLAs today met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to annul the "unconstitutional" resolution passed by AAP dominated Delhi Assembly "condemning" Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the demonetisation of high value currency notes.
A delegation of three BJP legislators, including Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta handed over a memorandum to the President in connection with a resolution passed by Assembly on November 15.
The AAP MLAs, led by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had slammed Modi over demonetisation of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes citing problems faced by poor people during the one day emergency session.
The House had also paid condolences to those who allegedly died while waiting in queues outside the banks and ATMs for exchange and withdrawal of money.
"The resolution violates Rule 93 of Delhi Vidhan Sabha which stipulates that a resolution shall not contain defamatory statements. The Rule 264 is binding to extent that resolution shall not refer to the officials by name. Therefore, the resolution deserves to be annulled for violations," said the MLAs.
Gupta pointed out to the President that the Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had met and submitted the resolution to him on November 19, while also seeking action against Chief Minister Kejriwal for alleged "misuse" of privileged House of Vidhan Sabha.
BJP legislators OP Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan were part of the delegation led by Gupta.
