"It is a welcome step. It will eradicate black money and fake currency that is used to finance terrorism," said Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay.
The step may cause inconvenience but it needs to be welcomed by all in view of its importance, he said.
"It's a major step and everybody should welcome it. It may pose a little inconvenience but if major steps are to be taken and changes are to be implemented in the country people will have to face some inconveniences," he said.
In his first televised address to the nation, Modi said people holding notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 can deposit the same in their bank and post office accounts from November 10 till December 30.
