Delhi Cabinet empowers govt schools to hire non-teaching staff

Principals of government-run schools can now hire retired officials as non-teaching staff and resource persons on contractual basis with the Delhi Government today passing a proposal in this regard.
In a bid to reduce the burden of additional duties on the teaching staff, Delhi Cabinet today passed a proposal empowering principals of government schools to set up appointment committees for hiring additional staff for non-teaching work.
Those who have retired from Delhi Government, Central or state governments or the armed forces from the posts of lower division clerk, upper division clerk, head clerks or office superintendent and are under the age of 65 years will be hired as "estate managers" and paid a consolidated sum of Rs 25,000 per month.

"Engaging teachers in non-teaching tasks is unfair to them as well as students. At present, there is a shortage of non-teaching staff and teachers are expected to perform tasks like maintaining records, bills, service books and communicating with other departments.
"Our attempt is to let teachers focus completely on teaching. Earlier, we had decided not to engage them in census work, now we will free them from other such responsibilities too," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.
"During my weekly interactions with teachers and principals, I got a suggestion that we should hire professional motivators to guide our students. So, the principals will now be free to hire such resource persons," he added.
