The Delhi Congress will soon launch an agitation demanding implementation of the legal provisions for street vendors by the AAP government and civic bodies, including the BJP-ruled municipal corporations.
The fight against the "inaction" of the Delhi government, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and municipal corporations in giving the hawkers their rights under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 will be waged on the streets and also in the courts, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said Friday.
The agitation titled "Mera Haq, Ethe Rakh" (give me my rights) will be convened by senior party leader Mukesh Sharma.
"The Street Vendors Act has been implemented all over the country, but the Delhi government has not yet completely implemented it in the city," Maken alleged.
The act was passed to ensure the participation of street vendors or their elected representatives and NGOs working for them in the forming of town vending committees and for selecting the vending and non-vending zones, he said.
"The NDMC has started issuing forms for the survey of street vendors without the formation of the town vending committees," the Congress leader charged.

According to the provisions of the act, at least 28 town vending committees should have been formed in Delhi, comprising 12 elected members each, he said.
"It is very unfortunate that whereas at least 326 elected members should have been there, there are only 152 in Delhi till now," Maken claimed.
