Delhi Dynamos players will be wearing the logo of the Chapecoense Football Club on their jerseys when they take to the field for the ISL semifinal against Kerala Blasters here tomorrow, as a mark of respect to the Brazilian club's players who died in a plane crash last month.
A plane carrying 77 people, including a top Brazilian football club team, crashed into the mountains near the city of Medellin in Colombia on November 29.
The team had been due to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana, against Medellin team Atletico Nacional.
On the eve of the first-leg semifinal, Dynamos announced that as a mark of respect the team will take the field for the remainder of the Indian Super League season wearing the logo of the Chapecoense Football Club on their jerseys.
Dynamos have as many as three Brazilian footballers in their ranks -- Marcelinho, Bruno Pelissari and Memo -- and they have been deeply affected by the tragedy.
Dynamos' star Brazilian winger Marcelinho, who has spent his formative years with Chapecoense Real coach Caio Junior, who was one of the 71 air crash victims, said, "I still cannot believe what happened. It has made me think about my life, my family. I think it has been a big loss not just for Brazil, but also for world football."
Prashant Agarwal, President of Delhi Dynamos FC said, "This is our own small way to pay homage to the terrible loss that Chapecoense have faced. The Brazilian players in our team have been profoundly saddened, and we want to stand behind them and tell them that the entire Delhi Dynamos family is with them.
