The direction came a week after death Jaskiran Chawla, a class-X student at Punjabi Bagh's Hansraj Model School when he stuck his head out of the window of the school bus and hit it against an electricity pole.

Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, after a meeting with top officials of police, education and transport departments, said government will not compromise with safety of the children and norms set by Supreme Court will have to be strictly followed by bus operators and schools' management.

He said each school will have to appoint a school bus incharge who will oversee the bus operation and will ensure that children on board the vehicles reach their destinations safely.

As per the directive, all schools will have to finalise a route plan for their buses and the route plan, along with the list of children traveling by buses and designated bus stops, should be submitted to the traffic police, transport department and Directorate of Education by August 15.
