Delhi govt asks Uber to submit sworn affidavit

Delhi government today asked Uber, the US-based online taxi-hailing company, to submit a sworn affidavit declaring that it was complying with the ban order imposed by it.
The government's move comes after several reports emerged that the company is operating its cabs in the national capital despite the ban.
"We have directed Uber to submit sworn affidavit declaring therein that you are complying with the ban order imposed upon your company," said a senior government official.
Uber was banned in Delhi in December after one of its drivers was accused of raping a female passenger. In January, the company applied for a radio taxi licence to operate through its subsidiary Resource Expert India Pvt Ltd.

Uber's application is still pending before the concerned authorities.
In its letter to the cab company, government said that there are reports that despite the ban orders, the company continues to operate the radio taxi service in Delhi in contravention of the order.
Recently, government had sought suggestions from its Law Department on the possible ways and methods for blocking US-based cab service Uber's app and website in the national capital.
The department has also approached the Centre to block the US-based cab service Uber's app and website.
