Delhi govt collects Rs 306.75 crore as luxury tax

Delhi Government has collected a record revenue of Rs 306.75 crore as Luxury Tax during 2013-2014, a growth of 4.5 per cent as campared to 2012-2013.
"During the last financial year, Excise Department collected Rs 306.75 crore luxury tax, which achieved a growth of around 4.5 per cent as compared to last financial year," Excise and Luxury Tax Commissioner J.B. Singh said.
"Excise Department is providing better services to the registered entities after implementing Excise Supply Chain Information Management System (ESCIMS) for on-line payment of tax and filing of on-line returns of Luxury Tax wherein registered dealers are depositing the luxury tax by way of various methods like on-line payment through net banking," Singh said.

He said that Luxury Tax registration in respect of hotels had already been included in e-SLA (Electronic Service Level Agreement), adding that now Luxury Tax registration in respect of Gym/Health Club, Spa and Banquet Hall is being provided to the citizens to facilitate/ensure timely delivery of services to them.
"Vigorous enforcement drives have been undertaken by the Department to check the registered entities where revenue collection was found short as compare to the preceding year and where entities have carried on the business without being registered under Luxury Tax Act," he added.
