As per the plan, the AAP government earlier had scheduled a four-day trial starting May 22 to restrict movement of vehicles in one of the oldest market areas of the city and make it pedestrian-friendly.
Jain, who today visited Chandni Chowk and met local traders and his department officials, has asked the Public Works Department to defer the plan until condition of roads and footpaths are made made in proper shape.
As per the decongestion scheme, planned from Red Fort to Fatehpuri in Chandni Chowk, only rickshaws and e-rickshaws would be allowed whil movement of scooters, cars and other motorised vehicles be restricted.
According to the plan, e-rickshaws would eventually be replaced by e-buses.
Once the traffic is restricted by the police, marshals and volunteers, encroachment from pavement and streets will be removed by the civic agency and dedicated lanes for pedestrians, rickshaw and e-buses would be marked.
