Health Minster A K Walia said the Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in west Delhi has launched the facility of reconstructive surgery for correction of claw-hand and foot-drop.
The enhanced financial support will be effective from April this year, he said.
"This surgical rehabilitation corrects the disability of hand and foot in patients, particularly those affected by leprosy. This disability may develop in leprosy case if the patient does not take treatment or discontinues treatment during the full required course," he said.
He also expressed satisfaction over the decline in the number of leprosy cases in the national capital. In 2001, the prevalence of leprosy in Delhi was 4.5 cases per 10,000 population and it has now come down to 0.8 cases per 10,000 population.
