Delhi govt may buy CCTV cameras from market: AAP

The AAP government is studying available options in the market to buy CCTV cameras for installation in various part of the city as procuring them from the empanelled agency was turning out to be expensive, a senior party leader said today.
AAP's Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey said, several places in the national capital will get CCTVs by the end of this financial year, a promise the party had made during the Delhi Assembly polls.
A committee comprising district collectors and MLAs has studied the available CCTV options in the market as buying them from the empanelled agency--Electrical Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL)--was turning out to be expensive, he said.

"Delhi government just had one central agency ECIL to buy CCTV cameras. Buying cameras from ECIL was proving to be extremely expensive. The agency which was empanelled would sell
CCTVs for Rs 70,000 to 80,000.
"A committee has been formed by Delhi government comprising district magistrates and MLAs, which has done a detailed study on available options in the market, including fitting and maintenance. They have prepared a White Paper and drafted a policy. Under the policy a tender document was drafted which will enable to buy CCTV cameras at lower price.

"Very soon, by the end of the financial year, you can see CCTVs at many places," Pandey said.

He said till now, 200-250 DTC buses have been fitted with CCTVs and made GPS-enabled. And there are some 4000 such buses which have marshals deployed.
Pandey said work on lighting the dark spots have also begun.
"Some 42,000 dark spots have already identified. The work on it was going on since last 4-5 months and it has been completed. For this drafting of global tender is over and it will soon be floated," Pandey said.
