Delhi govt notifies City Taxi Scheme

With an aim to provide last mile economical connectivity to Delhiites, the AAP government today notified the new 'City Taxi Scheme' 2015 which includes mandatory installation of GPS devices and digital fare meters.
A senior government official said that the new 'City Taxi Scheme' has been notified after merging Radio Taxi Scheme 2006 (modified) and Economy Radio Taxi Scheme, 2010.
According to new scheme, licensee will ensure that every taxi is a motor cab which has a vaild fitness certificate issued by the transport department, is driven on clean fuel (CNG, LPG), has an engine capicity of 600cc and above with sitting capicity not exceeding seven inclusive of driver.
"Taxi shall be fitted with GPS and GPRS based tracking device, printer, a display panel showing the path traversed and total distance cover. The devise shall be in constant communication with central control room of the licensee while the taxi is on hire," the official said.
On August 19 this month, Transport Minister Gopal Rai had announced a 'City Taxi Scheme', under which permits will be issued to 600cc vehicles.
The Minister had also said that as per the new scheme, the taxis will come with a panic and hooter button as a safety feature.

"An LCD display panel visible from both front and rear should be installed on the roof of the taxi to indicate that the vehicle is a taxi and whether it is available (green indicator) or occupied (red indicator).
"The colour of the taxi shall be white with a coloured strip on both sides of the taxi prominently displaying the name of the licensee. The taxi may be equipped with a mobile radio, web or application platform based two way communication system of the licensee," the official said.
In December last year, Delhi government had modified the Radio Taxi Scheme 2006 after the rape of 27-year-old financial executive allegedly by a driver employed with the Uber.
