The Delhi government has restructured the Directorate of Health Services and named it as Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a bid to ensure better delivery and monitoring of healthcare services in the national capital.
Dr Subodh Kumar Sharma, the present Director of Health Services, has been made the first Director General of Health Services, a senior department official said adding that the order was notified last evening.
"In the opinion of Health Minister Satyendra Jain, Delhi is vast and it is very difficult for one director of Health Services to deliver and monitor the services and various health schemes, the official said.
Delhi has been divided into five regions are - Central, East, North, West and South Delhi, each of which will be headed by one Regional Director Health Services (RDHS) who will monitor all health institutes in their zone.
"The aim is to strengthen the healthcare system in the national capital," they said.
All the RHDS along with the Director (Family Welfare) will report to the DGHS.
Three medical superintendents, Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College and the state NHM nodal officer have been given charge of each region.
