Delhi govt reviews arrangements for Chhat

At a meeting, Delhi Revenue Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely issued instruction to concerned agencies to make adequate facilities at important ghats along the Yamuna.

Officials said tents will be erected near the ghats for convenience of the pilgrims.

They said Delhi Police will be requested to install CCTV cameras at the ghats in order to provide fool-proof security. Revenue department will bear the cost of installation of CCTVs.

Devotees flock to various ghats along the Yamuna to offer prayers to the Sun on Chhat Puja, which is celebrated in Delhi by an estimated 40-lakh-strong Poorvanchali population.

The meeting was attended Divisional Commissioner Dharampal, all Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officers of Delhi Police, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Health Services, Delhi Fire Services and all the three municipal corporations. Also present were representatives of a number of Chhat pooja samitis.

The civic bodies have been told to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness in ghats.
