BJP today alleged that Congress government in Delhi was opposing setting up of an Accountability Commission as it was afraid that the corrupt who have been "shielded" by it till now will be put behind bars.
"The Congress is opposing it as it is scared that the Accountability Commission will fix responsibility for scams carried out by the government in the last 15 years.
"Congress knows that many of those patronised and shielded by its government will land up in jails once Accountability Commission is set up for Delhi," said Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel in a statement here.
A Delhi BJP delegation yesterday met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and demanded setting up of Accountability Commission to find the minister or the official accountable for delays and cost overrun.
A BJP delegation, led by Goel and comprising Mayors of the North, East and South Delhi Municipal Corporations and others, met Jung and handed him the letter.
Goel said if a BJP government if formed after December elections, it will set up an Accountability Commission which "will look into the cases of corruption and irregularities during the 15-year misrule by the Congress government and hold people involved accountable for their wrongdoings".

The BJP accused Congress ministers of misleading people on issue of power, education and water.

"The power purchase cost is high for Delhi because of the collusion between the Congress government and the power discoms," he said.
The BJP will reduce power tariff by 30 per cent by removing the malpractices in power purchase and distribution in Delhi, Goel said.
"Congress ministers are misleading people by claiming that drinking water supply is available to 95 per cent of the city, whereas the CAG has clearly stated in its report that over 40 per cent areas of Delhi does not get drinking water from the Delhi Jal Board," said Goel.
Goel accused the Delhi government of being hand in glove with the tanker mafia of the city.
"There has been a sharp decline in the opportunities for higher education as no new college has been set up in the last 15 years in Delhi University by the city government.
"When elected to power, the BJP will bring higher education back in focus, open an online university, provide relaxation of five per cent marks for students of Delhi and open new colleges," Goel promised.
