Delhi govt to spend Rs 513 crore on power sector

The power sector in the national capital was today allocated Rs 513 crore in Delhi budget with focus on constructing new sub-stations for better transmission and distribution system.
With the city witnessing an increase of 5,683 million units of power in the past ten years, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the focus of her government in the past ten years was to strengthen the transmission network to reduce the distribution and transmission losses.
The metropolis consumed 25349 power units in the last one decade, an increase of 5683 million units since 2002. The aggregate transmission and distribution loses were reduced from 60 per cent to about 17 per cent, she said.
In order to fulfil the increasing demand, new sub-stations are being set up at Harsh Vihar, Peeragarhi, Wazirpur, Rohini and Lodhi Road with the augmentation and modernisation of the existing sub-stations.
In the last one year, sub stations of 66KV and 33KV capacity have been added at Jasola, Mundka, Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Rohini, Sonia Vihar and Ridge valley.
The state government is planing to increase the transformation capacity to 16,000 MVA by the end of the year, she said.
The distribution network is also being strengthened by discoms and many substations are being added.
