Delhi govt urges Centre to expedite work of expressways

Delhi government has urged the Centre to expedite the work of Western Peripheral Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway which will help in controlling pollution in the national capital.
The government move comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones of these two projects in Haryana yesterday.
In his letter to Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Transport minister Gopal Rai also requested him to instruct NHAI to install weigh-in-motions at major entry points of highways in the capital.
"I am glad to know that on November 5, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Western Peripheral Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway and 8 laning of highway section from Mukarba Chowk Delhi to Panipat which are a very welcome step.
"I convey my sincere thanks and gratitude for expediting the long pending projects which will surely be a mile stone for controlling pollution in Delhi," the Delhi Minister said in the letter.
Rai also said that he hopes the project will be completed on priority so as to give relief to the citizens of Delhi.
Yesterday, Gadkari had said that Delhi will be the biggest gainer with the coming up of both Eastern Peripheral expressway highway and Western Peripheral expressway highways.
"Delhi will be the biggest gainer as traffic problem will ease, level of pollution will come down and number of accidents will drop," he had said.
