"We have got the clearance from Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) for the double-decker train for Lucknow," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here today.
While the date of launching the train has not been decided yet, it is likley to be flagged off shortly before Holi festival.
Prabhu was speaking on the sidelines of an RPF function. When asked about the Rail Budget, he said, "We will try to fulfil everybody's aspirations in the budget."
According to Railways, the AC double-decker New Delhi-Lucknow will have 12 coaches having 110 seats in each. It will run approximately at a maximum speed of 110 kph and the fare is likely to be around Rs 630 for travelling between Lucknow and New Delhi.
Railways is currently running AC double-deckers on a few routes including Howrah-Dhanbad, Mumbai-Ahemedabad, Delhi-Jaipur and Bangalore-Chennai among others.
