Delhi, Manipur win in hockey nationals

Delhi slammed in 18 goals against Andaman & Nicobar while Namdhari XI and Manipur, too, registered victories in the 5th Senior Men's National Hockey Championship here today.
In a one-sided match, Delhi scored as early as the first minute when Simpinder Singh beat the goalkeeper all ends up. This was immediately followed by Lalit slamming in the second. Delhi scored the third goal in the 10th minute through Satinder Dalal. Delhi added five more goals before ending the first half with a 8-0 lead. The second half was no different as Pawan Singh Chauhan scored in the 37th and 39th minute. Delhi added eight more goals.
In an evenly contested match, Bengal and Vidarbha played out a 3-3 draw, while Namdhari XI defeated Jammu & Kashmir 6-0.
Manipur defeated Hockey Rajasthan 5-4 in a closely fought match. Manipur's Hemjit Singh's two goals helped his team to win the match in the last few minutes. Though Rajasthan drew the first blood in eighth minute when Pradeep Singh Naruka scored from a penalty corner. Pradeep's teammate Sanjay Kumawat scored the second in 20th minute after he dribbled past the defenders. Trailing 0-2, Manipur scored two back-to-back goals in 27th and 28th minutes through Dhananjoy Khangembam's penalty corner and captain Banti Singh's brilliant field goal.
In the third quarter, Purshotam Bagdi and captain Gurmeet Singh hit two goals for Rajasthan in 45th and 51st minute. Manipur's Hemjit scored a stunner in 55th minute, before Jotin Singh made it 4-each in the next minute. In the 58th minute Harjit scored the winning goal for Manipur.
