"The Board of Governors (BOG) of the university has been notified to take forward its academic functioning from the 2015-16 academic session," an official statement said.
The Act of Delhi Pharmaceutical Science & Research University (DPSRU) was passed by Delhi Legislative Assembly in September, 2008 but had not been made functional so far.
"The university will run from the DIPSAR campus in Pushp Vihar. An additional building block, a nine-storey building will be completed soon and sufficient space will be made available for functioning of the university," the statement said.
"The university will introduce more courses in pharmaceutical field and in allied sciences, like medical lab technology and physiotherapy. This will increase the present student strength of around 600 to 1500 over a period of three years," it said.
"More specialised post-graduate programmes will also be added along with creation of 'Centres of Excellence' in the specialised area of pharmacy like medicinal chemistry, toxicology and drug regulatory affairs," it added.
