Delhi Police today claimed to have cracked 16 cases of theft in south Delhi with the arrest of three members of 'gulel gang', known for using catapults to break car windows to steal gadgets and cash from the vehicles.
A stolen autorickshaw, seven laptops and seven expensive mobile phones were recovered from them, police said.
According to police, the accused would park the autorickshaw near their target vehicle and break its windowpanes using 'gulel' (catapult) and small iron balls to steal valuables inside including laptops and mobile phones.
One of the accused, Deepak (24) alias Nikhil, was arrested from Africa Avenue of R K Puram on Tuesday by a team of police officials following a tip-off, police said.
Two stolen laptops, two catapults and small iron balls were recovered from his possession.
During the investigation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in more than 30-35 incidents of theft in areas such as Uttam Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Laxmi Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Mahipalpur and Lajpat Nagar.
He also admitted to have stolen laptops from cars along with his associate Babu Mishra (22) which were handed over to one Noushad (28), police said.
Babu was arrested after raids were conducted by a police team at his possible hideouts. Noushad was nabbed later based on information given by the two during their interrogation.
